Hyundai Bayon Latest Update
Hyundai has officially confirmed the Bayon as its upcoming SUV for the Indian market. Positioned between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon will measure around 4.2 metres in length and is expected to offer a more spacious alternative to sub-four-metre SUVs without stepping directly into Creta territory. Hyundai is expected to reveal more details about the SUV in the coming weeks, with the launch likely to take place next month.
Design: The India-spec Bayon is expected to feature a more SUV-oriented design than the international model. Previous test mules have revealed a relatively upright stance, a flat roofline, prominent roof rails, squared-off wheel arches, and conventional door handles. The overall silhouette is expected to retain the core Bayon identity, while India-specific changes could include revised lighting elements.
At the front, the test vehicle appears to feature a wide lighting signature positioned closer to the bonnet, with the primary lighting units placed lower on the fascia. The rear gets a horizontal lighting element, an upright windscreen, and a roof-mounted spoiler. The squared wheel arches further add to its SUV-like appearance.
Interior: The Bayon is expected to get a modern, dual-tone cabin with a driver-focused dashboard layout. Spy shots have revealed a new Hyundai steering wheel with the brand's four-dot signature, along with a curved dual-screen setup integrating the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display.
Based on Hyundai's Brazil-spec i20, the dual-screen layout could feature two 12.3-inch displays. Other expected equipment includes a 360-degree camera, sunroof, and connected-car technology. However, the India-spec Bayon is not expected to feature Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment system.
Powertrain: Hyundai has not revealed the engine or gearbox specifications of the India-spec Bayon yet. However, the SUV could borrow the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Creta. In its existing application, this engine produces around 113bhp and 143.8 Nm, which would help Hyundai maintain a clear power gap between the Bayon and the Venue/Venue N Line.
A factory-fitted CNG powertrain is also expected to be part of the India-specific package, although Hyundai has yet to confirm the same. Final engine, transmission, and variant details are expected to be announced closer to the launch.
ADAS: The international-spec Bayon is equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance systems, including lead vehicle departure alert, rear parking collision avoidance assist, rear occupant alert, driver monitoring, and cruise control. Similar technology is expected to make its way to the India-spec SUV, although the availability will likely vary depending on the variant.
Given its positioning below the Creta, Hyundai could offer ADAS on a wider range of variants, making the technology more accessible to buyers moving up from the Venue and other compact SUVs.
Positioning: The Bayon will occupy an important space in Hyundai's SUV portfolio, sitting between the Venue and Creta. With the Creta growing in size and moving further towards the premium end of the segment, the Bayon could effectively cater to buyers looking for a larger SUV without spending on the higher variants of the Creta.
The SUV is also expected to overlap with higher variants of the Venue and Venue N Line, creating a broader range of choices within Hyundai's SUV line-up.
Expected Price: Hyundai has not announced the pricing of the Bayon yet. However, considering its positioning between the Venue and Creta, the SUV could be priced in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The final price will depend on the engine, transmission, and variant combinations offered at launch.

Should I buy the Bayon?
- The Hyundai Bayon comes with a bold, contemporary SUV design, with an upright stance, sculpted bonnet, pronounced fenders and defined character lines that give it a distinctive road presence.
- At the front, there are H-Edge LED DRLs and dual LED projector headlamps which create a futuristic appearance, while the geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-type roof rails add to its rugged character.
- The rear features H-Edge LED tail-lamps, a sporty spoiler with a vertically positioned high-mounted stop lamp and a spread-type emblem that enhances its visual width.
- Measuring 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, the Bayon has substantial proportions for urban use. Its 205 mm ground clearance and 5.16-metre turning radius also promise a useful balance between road presence and manoeuvrability.

- The Hyundai Bayon cabin is one of its biggest highlights, combining a modern design with comfort and extensive technology. Its 2,600 mm wheelbase is designed to provide generous headroom, legroom and shoulder room across both rows.
- The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays, forming a connected cockpit powered by NVIDIA-accelerated technology. The cabin also gets a dual-tone Black and Olive Grey finish, a cascade-flow centre console, leatherette seat upholstery, a soft-touch crashpad insert and ambient lighting.
- Comfort features include ventilated front seats, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, two-step rear reclining seats, fully automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof and a wireless smartphone charger.
- Practicality is also on point as the Bayon offers a sliding front console armrest, rear centre armrest with cupholders, USB Type-C charging ports, a smart key with push-button start and 60:40 split rear seats. The 505-litre boot capacity further improves its suitability for family use and weekend travel.
- Technology is another major strength, with a generative AI voice assistant featuring Intelligence by Perplexity and Voice AI powered by SoundHound AI. The BAYON also gets over 70 Bluelink connected features, more than 500 embedded voice commands, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium sound system, and three years of complimentary Bluelink subscription. Over-the-air updates are supported for up to 19 controllers, subject to availability and manufacturer conditions.
- Safety is a key focus area for the Hyundai Bayon. Built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, it features a body structure engineered with 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel to improve structural rigidity, crash-energy management and occupant protection. Hyundai states that the SUV is engineered for five-star Indian safety standards based on its internal assessment; this should not be confused with an independently awarded crash-test rating.
- More than 35 safety features are standard across all variants, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control, a rollover sensor and a high-line Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
- The Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS package brings 23 driver assistance features, supported by three radars and 12 parking sensors. Key highlights include Highway Driving Assist, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Surround View Monitor and Blind-spot View Monitor.
- All-wheel disc brakes add to the safety package, although the rear brake configuration varies by trim. ADAS availability also varies by variant, and these systems assist rather than replace attentive driving.
- The Hyundai BAYON uses a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 143.8 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Hyundai says more than six lakh vehicles equipped with this engine have been sold in India since 2020, giving the powertrain an established track record.
- Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT). The manual should appeal to drivers who prefer greater control, while the iVT is aimed at those seeking convenience in everyday traffic.
- The iVT gets Dash Boost Mode for enhanced responsiveness during overtaking and Sporty Drive Tech for a more engaging acceleration experience. Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, steering-mounted controls, paddle shifters and Idle Stop & Go further broaden its driving functionality.
- With 205 mm of claimed ground clearance, a 43-litre fuel tank and a conventional petrol powertrain, the BAYON is positioned for everyday commuting and longer journeys. However, the launch document does not provide acceleration figures, fuel-efficiency numbers or real-world driving impressions, so its outright performance and economy cannot yet be assessed comprehensively.
